6 min read

On September 16, 2025, the Practical Training Office and Data Processing Department at Taoyuan Municipal Zhong Li Home Economics and Commercial Senior High School partnered with Jing-Yeu International Ltd. to introduce a RiCOMA Luminaris 200 white toner printer and a RiCOMA HP 1620F-T desktop heat press. Efficiency and finish are key differentiators in the rapidly changing digital printing market. This combination offers an efficient solution for makers, schools and small to medium-sized studios. Unlike UV direct printing with its complex inkjet procedures, white toner printing centers on dry-toner transfer, avoiding time-consuming coating and drying steps while producing vivid, clearly defined transfers quickly. Combined with the HP 1620F-T’s consistent heat pressing, it can produce detailed, durable images on dark fabrics, wood, leather and acrylic, opening up more material possibilities.

From Difficult Maintenance to Easier Operation: Addressing Zhongli’s Needs

Schools that have purchased inkjet direct-printing machines may be familiar with their complex printing systems. Long periods of inactivity can lead to blockages and dried colorants, requiring regular specialist maintenance and cleaning. For schools, these costs can be substantial and may also reduce equipment use during the school term.

Zhongli therefore began looking for more stable, straightforward output equipment. When Jing-Yeu International introduced the RiCOMA white toner printer and its “no cleaning, no maintenance, ready when switched on” features, teachers immediately took notice. Such equipment suits teaching environments: teachers need not worry about faults caused by long periods of inactivity or additional maintenance staff to maintain consistent output.

What Is a White Toner Printer, and How Is It Different?

Before discussing the RiCOMA Luminaris 200, many teachers may ask how a white toner printer differs from an ordinary printer. The key distinction is that it can print white.

With conventional inkjet and color laser printers, white generally comes from the paper itself rather than a printed white layer. As a result, colors can be lost, distorted or dulled when designs are applied to dark fabric, wood or leather.

A white toner printer combines a special white toner layer with color toner. It calculates the white underbase coverage during printing so color images can appear clearly against different base colors.

The workflow is straightforward. Using dedicated A/B transfer paper, the image is first printed on sheet A, then heat-pressed onto sheet B before application to fabric, leather, acrylic or another material. Whether school clubs are making class shirts, courses need teaching-material labels, or data processing students are designing creative products, work can be completed quickly. The technology supports consistent printing and makes commercializing creative ideas more accessible.

RiCOMA Luminaris 200: Straightforward, Consistent Printing

Zhongli selected the RiCOMA Luminaris 200 white toner printer. Its distinguishing feature is “white toner technology” rather than conventional liquid ink. Toner does not dry out during extended inactivity, making it suitable for school and office environments where printing can resume when the machine is switched on.

It produces vivid color and white designs with clear tonal separation and sharp edges, particularly suited to black or dark substrates.

With both hot-peel and cold-peel transfer methods, users can work flexibly with different materials:

  • Hot peel: Bright, saturated images suited to a quick workflow.

  • Cold peel: Clean edges and complete detail suited to intricate designs.

During training, teachers found the interface clear and the settings straightforward, requiring only a few button presses to complete printing. This consistency and convenience were especially valuable in a teaching environment.

How Do White Toner Printers Differ from UV Direct Printers?

A common purchasing question from schools and creative practitioners is: “If we already have a UV direct printer, why do we need a white toner printer?” The two technologies serve complementary situations rather than simply competing.

UV direct printers deposit and cure ink directly on an object’s surface, making them suitable for larger quantities of the same material. Their precision printheads, however, may become blocked by dried ink after prolonged inactivity, leading to relatively high maintenance costs.

By comparison, white toner printers use laser toner transfer technology, without inkjet printheads. They are ready for use without warm-up maintenance and avoid ink-blockage concerns. Transfers can be applied quickly to cotton, canvas, wood pieces, acrylic, leather and even metal sheets, provided the material can withstand heat pressing.

This gives teachers more flexibility to plan exercises with different materials, without equipment maintenance schedules limiting classroom or project work. If UV direct printing represents a stable production-line workflow, white toner printing offers flexibility and immediate output for creative work.

For example, school clubs can produce small batches of T-shirts, graduation gifts or class emblems within minutes, without being constrained by material curvature or thickness. For large quantities of standardized acrylic display stands or metal products, UV direct printing offers high precision and consistency.

The strength of white toner printing is therefore flexible, immediate, low-maintenance production across materials. It complements UV printing by addressing small-batch, varied, on-demand output.

RiCOMA HP 1620F-T: A Precise, Safe Heat-Press Partner

Introduced alongside the Luminaris 200 was the RiCOMA HP 1620F-T desktop heat press.

The machine has a clear digital control panel for setting time and temperature, with both Celsius and Fahrenheit options. Its multilingual interface makes operation easy to understand without repeatedly consulting instructions.

A particularly appreciated feature is its safety design. When the set pressing time ends, the machine opens automatically, helping prevent overheating if the operator forgets to remove the item. This protects fabric and transfer quality and gives first-time users greater confidence.

During the practical session, the instructor explained how to adjust time and temperature for cotton, canvas, tote bags and other materials. Teachers learned that even the same design can produce different results depending on the requirements.

A/B Transfer Paper: Turning Printed Images into Physical Products

The key to transferring white toner images onto different materials is dedicated A/B transfer paper. Sheet A receives the printed image, while sheet B supplies an adhesive layer during pressing. After the sheets are pressed together and separated, the toner image can adhere to a heat-transfer-compatible surface.

The instructor reminded teachers that ordinary A4 paper cannot perform this transfer: dedicated A/B transfer paper is required. The differences in peeling were also explained:

  • For hot peeling, separate the sheets while still hot for brighter colors;

  • For cold peeling, wait until they have cooled completely for more stable edges.

After a hot-peel demonstration, one teacher joked, “We’ll need to train our iron palms for this!” The comment brought laughter to the room. The instructor then pressed the transferred design onto blue cotton fabric. Its complete, richly colored result without residual toner left a strong impression.

Practical Value and Further Classroom Applications

Zhongli introduced the white toner printer and heat press not only to improve output quality, but to give teachers and students a more reliable, lower-cost platform for practical work.

The equipment can support several courses, including:

  • Multimedia design: Students turn graphic designs into physical samples.

  • Marketing and display: Students produce branded T-shirts, reusable bags or souvenirs.

  • Entrepreneurship simulations: Small-batch prototypes help students understand cost control and production processes.

Straightforward operation allows teachers to train students quickly, reducing equipment instruction time. With no cleaning or special maintenance needed, the school can schedule use more efficiently and extend equipment service life.

For the Data Processing Department, the printer is more than an output device. It connects digital design with physical production, helping students understand the workflow and logic of design and manufacturing.
