Becoming a 3D Model: Zhongli Teachers and Students Explore 3D Scanning and Digital Creation

As digital technology develops rapidly, 3D scanning is moving from specialized industries into classrooms.
In the past, 3D modeling often brought to mind complex software and professional design skills. As scanning technology matures, however, scanning equipment can now quickly turn real-world objects, and even people, into complete digital models.
These digital models support not only 3D printing but also applications in healthcare, engineering, multimedia design, cultural preservation, virtual exhibitions and education.
On April 28, 2026, Taoyuan Municipal Zhong Li Home Economics and Commercial Senior High School partnered with Jing-Yeu International Ltd. to hold a hands-on workshop on 3D scanning and digital creation. To introduce teachers and students to the latest digital applications, the workshop used desktop scanners, handheld scanners and 3D printers to demonstrate the complete process, from scanning a person and generating a model to producing a physical object.
What made this workshop particularly special was this:
For many participants, it was their first glimpse of their own “digital double”.

Starting with 3D Scanning: Seeing How Technology Changes the World

Rather than beginning immediately with equipment operation, Jing-Yeu International first introduced the principles behind 3D scanning.
Many teachers had never encountered this technology. As the instructor explained how optical sensing and spatial positioning rapidly generate three-dimensional models, surprised reactions began to spread through the room.
The introduction to practical applications across industries opened teachers’ eyes even further.3D Scanning Is Already Used in Many Industries
Through real examples, the instructor introduced applications in several fields.

In healthcare, 3D scanning can support:
* Prosthetic fabrication
* Rehabilitation aid design
* Analysis of human anatomy
* Customized medical models

In engineering and architecture, applications include:
* Road surveying
* Building modeling
* Engineering inspection
* Construction planning

In multimedia design and gaming, common uses include:
* Character modeling
* Animation production
* VR and AR content development
* Digital exhibitions and virtual displays

Scanning people can also lead to:
* Personalized figurines
* Digital doubles
* Character creation
* Creative product development
The real-world examples prompted repeated exclamations of surprise.
Many general-subject teachers said they rarely encountered these technologies and had never imagined that a single 3D scanner could connect with so many industries.
One teacher smiled and said:
“So this is how many of the digital characters in films are made!”
These examples helped everyone understand:
3D scanning is more than a piece of equipment: it is an important technology connecting the physical and digital worlds.Desktop Scanner Practice: Learning Digital Modeling with Small Objects

After the theoretical introduction, the workshop moved into hands-on practice.
The first equipment participants tried was a desktop 3D scanner.
To help everyone get started quickly, Jing-Yeu International prepared a range of suitable objects, including:
* Figurines
* Small creative products
* Decorative objects
* Small craft pieces

Teachers and students took turns placing objects on the scanning platform and watching the equipment capture their shapes and details.
As a figurine from the table gradually appeared on screen as a freely rotatable 3D model, many participants looked delighted.
They began asking:
“What if we used our own work?”
“Could that become a digital model too?”
“Could we use this in our teaching?”
Hands-on operation helped participants understand the basics of digital modeling and begin to see new creative possibilities.Handheld Scanner Experience: Turning Yourself into a 3D Model
If the desktop scanner showed everyone how objects become digital, the handheld scanner took the excitement to a new level.
This time, the subjects were the teachers and students themselves.

The instructor invited participants to work in pairs and help each other complete a portrait scan.
Several teachers were a little nervous at first:
“Can you really scan a person into a computer?”
“What will the result look like?”
As the scanner moved slowly around each person, a model gradually took shape on screen.
Hair, facial features, clothing outlines and even some aspects of facial expression were captured.
The first appearance of each person’s 3D model immediately sparked laughter and excited reactions.
Many teachers took out their phones to record the moment.

At the end of the workshop, the instructor demonstrated how scanned models could be sent to a 3D printer.
Participants were delighted to see how a model on screen could return to the physical world through 3D printing.
One teacher remarked:
“The whole process, from a real person to a model and then a physical object, really can happen in a classroom.”
Other teachers began considering:
If students could scan their own creative work and then 3D-print souvenirs, figurines or creative products, it could give them a real sense of achievement.
These discussions extended the workshop beyond equipment operation into educational applications and creative ideas.3D scanning and digital creation at Zhongli: 3D-printing a model. 3D scanning and digital creation at Zhongli: 3D-printing a model.
Jing-Yeu International: Turning Complex Technology into Classroom Learning Tools

In this workshop, Jing-Yeu International served as more than an equipment demonstrator: it guided participants in technology education.
Clear explanations, real examples and a complete hands-on experience helped teachers understand:
A 3D scanner is more than high-tech equipment. It is a valuable tool for creativity, design and interdisciplinary learning.
From healthcare and engineering to design and education, the instructor showed step by step how technology enters everyday life, encouraging teachers to consider new possibilities for their courses.Becoming Part of a Digital Creation
The most memorable part of the workshop was not the equipment itself, but the moment participants saw themselves transformed into 3D models.
When technology connects with us personally instead of remaining a demonstration, learning becomes more tangible.
Through desktop scanners, handheld scanners and 3D printers, Zhongli teachers and students learned about 3D scanning and experienced the full creative process: physical to digital, then digital back to physical.
The experience helped everyone recognize something anew:
Future creations need not exist only on paper or screens. They can begin in the real world and be recreated in entirely new forms.3D scanning and digital creation at Zhongli: workshop activities. 3D scanning and digital creation at Zhongli: workshop activities.
