From Classroom to Immersive Worlds: A Meta Quest 3 Workshop at Lo-Tung Commercial High School

Meta Quest 3 immersive technology workshop for the Data Processing Department at National Lo-Tung Commercial Vocational High School.

With the arrival of spatial computing devices such as Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest, virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR) and extended reality (XR) have continued to develop rapidly.

People once experienced digital content mainly through phones, tablets and computer screens. Increasingly, industries are creating experiences that people can step into, interact with and explore.

From medical simulation and engineering design to corporate collaboration, virtual exhibitions, education and entertainment, XR is changing how people work, learn and communicate. For many businesses, these applications are already part of the present.

Educators are therefore asking whether students can encounter these technologies before entering the workforce and begin developing an understanding of the future.

On May 4 and May 18, 2026, the Data Processing Department at National Lo-Tung Commercial Vocational High School partnered with Jing-Yeu International to hold a Meta Quest 3 Immersive Technology Workshop. Through equipment introductions, industry examples and practical experiences, students explored XR applications and possible new ways of working, learning and interacting.

Introducing students to immersive technology early

As XR enters different industries, National Lo-Tung Commercial Vocational High School wanted students to experience more than a new device. The school wanted them to understand how technology could change work and learning.

The workshop began by establishing concepts and introducing XR's development and practical applications across industries, rather than simply handing out headsets for games.

This structure helped students build an initial understanding of technological change alongside their practical experience.

How Jing-Yeu International brings emerging technology into the classroom

Jing-Yeu International organized the course into four stages: understanding concepts, exploring applications, experiencing the technology and reflecting on its possibilities.

The instructor began with the features of Meta Quest 3 and the basic concepts of VR, MR and XR.

Although many students had heard of VR, they were less familiar with developments across the broader XR field.

Industry examples introduced applications in medical simulation, corporate training, remote collaboration, digital displays and education, helping students see how XR is becoming a tool for work as well as entertainment.

Understanding where the technology could be used gave the practical activities a clearer purpose.
A range of XR experiences reveals more possibilities

After the equipment introduction, students moved into hands-on experiences.

Jing-Yeu International selected a range of applications so students could explore immersive technology from the perspectives of education, work, exercise and entertainment.

Students began with space exploration experiences including Space Explorers Ultimate Edition and Mission: ISS.

With the headsets on, the familiar classroom gave way to space and the International Space Station. Students could look around freely, inspect equipment up close and interact with a simulated zero-gravity setting, turning a world previously seen on video into an environment they could explore.

Students also tried the Arthur virtual collaboration platform.

Virtual whiteboards, group discussions, presentations and interactive 3D spaces introduced possible workplace practices and new approaches to collaboration across locations.

The course also included immersive exercise with TrainR: Move, strategy card play in Cards & Tankards, and multiplayer experiences such as VRChat and VRLegs: Parkour Tag.

Some students explored new forms of interaction through virtual exercise, while others discussed card strategies or explored parkour and social environments with classmates.

Each activity represented a different application of XR. Students discovered that the same headset can support very different interactions for learning, entertainment, socializing, exercise and work, helping them see XR as a technology with applications across industries.

Students begin asking what else the future might hold

Students' reactions became one of the most engaging parts of the workshop.

Some immediately joined the queue again after finishing, hoping for another turn.

Others removed their headsets and began asking about equipment prices, showing a growing interest in XR.

Discussion gradually moved from whether an experience was fun to what the technology might make possible.

Some wondered whether all future games would take this form. Others discussed whether friends in different cities could meet, talk and complete tasks together in virtual spaces.

Some students said it was the first time they had felt present inside a scene, a very different sensation from watching content on a phone or computer.

There were no single correct answers, but the discussions showed students beginning to think actively about where technology might go and what changes it could bring.

When students start asking questions and imagining the future, learning is already taking place.

From watching content to participating in it

In many technology lessons, students watch videos, use software or complete digital projects on computer screens.

Meta Quest 3 offered a different kind of experience

Students could explore a simulated space station from within and interact with its environment, rather than simply watching it on a screen.

From viewer to participant

This shift helps explain the growing interest in immersive technology: digital content can become something people participate in directly.

Connecting XR with future careers

As XR develops, related industries are also creating new opportunities for skilled people.

Applications include XR content design, interactive development, games and animation, digital education, medical simulation, corporate training and virtual exhibitions.

These roles may be unfamiliar to high school students, but they can offer possible future career paths.

Early exposure broadens students' understanding of industries and gives them more possibilities to consider as they explore careers.

Experience emerging technology and broaden horizons

The workshop's significance went beyond students putting on a Meta Quest 3 headset for the first time.

Through space exploration, virtual collaboration, multiplayer interaction and immersive exercise, they saw how XR can affect work, learning and everyday life.

For students at National Lo-Tung Commercial Vocational High School, the lesson offered a window onto possible futures.

Through complete course design, Jing-Yeu International continues to connect industry developments with classroom learning, helping students understand technology and imagine what comes next.

Education helps students learn what is known today while also preparing them to understand how the world is changing.
