AI Creative Coin Purses: Bringing Technology into Everyday Life and Making Personal Creations
On September 13, 2025, National Hualien Commercial High School and Jing-Yeu International Ltd. held an “AI Creative Coin Purse” activity for junior high school students and teachers from Hualien City. Its guiding idea was that every participant should personally complete an AI-assisted creative work. Combining AI image generation with physical coin-purse production demonstrated that technology is within reach, and AI can connect with everyday creativity in many forms. Together, they can complement one another and support a new generation of learning and the creative economy.
Technology Enters the Classroom: The Idea Behind AI Creative Design
The activity aimed to overcome the sense that technology is distant from everyday life. AI has often been seen as a highly specialized field with substantial entry barriers. Many students and parents had heard of it but rarely had opportunities to use it themselves.
Through this activity, the school and Jing-Yeu International Ltd. wanted to communicate a clear message:Technology can be part of everyday life, and AI can have a human touch.With appropriate guidance and accessible tools, students, teachers and parents can each use AI to make a unique physical work, connecting visible creativity with a tangible finished product.
From Using AI to Knowing How to Talk to It
AI generation tools have developed rapidly, including ChatGPT, Canva AI, Bing Image Creator and Midjourney. The instructor highlighted a challenge shared by many users:The key is knowing how to communicate with AI, rather than simply opening it.
Beginners often enter broad prompts such as “a cute cat” or “beautiful scenery.” Although these generate images, they may not capture the scene the creator imagines. The instructor illustrated the difference:
Entering only “dog” may produce various styles and breeds.
Changing the prompt to “a golden retriever running on a beach, sunlight on its fur, realistic style” produces a more focused image closer to the creator’s expectations.
Through repeated practice and live demonstrations, students came to understand:Precise, specific keywords unlock AI’s creative potential.This is a new form of language literacy and expression as well as a tool-use skill.
Canva AI: A Practical Platform Connecting Ideas and Design
Canva AI was the main creative platform for the activity. The instructor introduced how AI image generation works and where it can be used, then demonstrated entering prompts in Canva and adjusting themes, colors and styles.
Students completed their work through the following steps:
Enter prompt keywords: For example, “a pink coin-purse design with cats in a youthful feminine style.”
Review AI-generated results: Select a personally appealing image from several candidates.
Arrange the design in Canva: Adjust the composition and add text or simple decorative elements.
Export the finished image: Crop to the coin purse’s actual dimensions and prepare for printing.
Even junior high school students without a design background could quickly create attractive images with a personal style.AI lowered barriers and expanded creativity while students remained the designers.
From Screen to Palm: AI Images and Heat-Transfer Printing
After completing their designs, participants reached the most anticipated stage: making physical coin purses. Students and parents printed their images, then used a desktop heat press with help from the instructor and staff to transfer the designs onto canvas coin purses.
This offered a complete learning experience from digital design to physical production:
Students watched images created on screen gradually become physical objects.
Parents took photographs, witnessing the entire process from ideas and design to making.
Each completed coin purse became a personal work with a story, rather than simply a product.
Participants could clearly see that:AI can be a creative partner in everyday life, rather than a distant algorithm.
Shared Family Learning and Teacher Development
Students, parents and teachers participated together, giving everyone an opportunity to enter the world of AI creative design.
Students gained practical understanding of how AI and creative design work together. Parents gained a window into their children’s future learning, while teachers found inspiration for course design and classroom applications.
After the activity, many parents said that AI could help children create meaningful, personal work. Teachers also considered how to incorporate similar activities into future courses, for example:
Combining design classes with AI image generation to explore visual styles.
Using AI in marketing classes to create product imagery and promotional materials.
Combining cloud platforms and AI applications in computing classes to complete integrated projects.
From a One-Day Experience to Curriculum Development: AI Creative Design in Secondary and Vocational Education
Although the coin-purse activity lasted only one day, it offered longer-term inspiration for secondary and vocational education. National Hualien Commercial High School and other vocational programs could develop several course directions:
AI design application projects: Combine data processing, image editing and AI generation to produce a complete portfolio or product proposal.
Intelligent imaging and branding practice: Students use AI to create logos, packaging images and social media assets, simulating real brand operations.
Campus marketing and promotional design: Use Canva AI to help create event posters, social media posts and visual drafts for admissions brochures.
Within this framework, AI becomes a shared tool across design, marketing and business practice, rather than a single chapter in computing classes.
